I attended WordCamp Las Vegas at The Innevation Center on Dec. 12 and thought the event was outstanding. I left feeling energized and eager to move forward with my career journey.
All the presenters did a great job. Three that particularly resonated with me were Chris Lema, John Lynn and Kathi Minsky.
Let’s start with Chris.
He impressed me with his energy and really got me excited about not only blogging on what I’m passionate about but making sure I align the work I do each day with what I truly love to do. There are activities that make me fly out of bed early in the morning to get started. I lose track of time as I delve into them. They are what I must consistently align my career with.
I love to tell stories – stories of people, organizations and communities. I love using whatever media is available to tell them effectively. The evolution of media excites me. That’s how I entered web design. As a journalism student, I was fascinated how the web can quickly amplify and distribute good stories. I started learning WordPress and suddenly found myself creating and running websites for publications and other organizations. Now I have a web development business that supports my family and two part-time employees. It’s amazing how things work out.
But building websites is only part of the equation for me. Chris helped me reconnect with my love for the whole gamut of story telling. As we enter the new year, Nevada Central Media will enter a new phase. We will tell stories. We will tell our own story and the stories of the businesses and organizations we serve. We will also create and manage platforms that inform, motivate and advocate for the communities we are proud to be part of.
