I am encouraged by recent events and opportunities within Nevada Central Media.
We sold LCCentral.com and Lincoln County Magazine to Battle Born Media, owner of the Lincoln County Record, The Ely Times, Eureka Sentinel and Mineral County Independent-News. BBM also retained us to create and execute its online strategy for all of its publications.
I’m excited to use my journalism training and experience, along with my online knowledge to do some exciting things under this arrangement.
Many rural communities like Lincoln County have broadband Internet and smartphones available with speeds rivaling what one has in the big city. However, the availability of high-quality, local online information is lagging behind.
Since the agreement was finalized, NVC Media has revamped LCCentral.com, creating a website that looks great on desktop, tablet, and mobile screens. Visitors are treated to excellent local news coverage, as well as detailed listings of local products and services available to them. NVC Media is currently working on a variety of packages for businesses to promote themselves on this web portal. The goal is to have LCCentral.com be a centralized hub where Lincoln County residents and visitors to go for all important information in the county.
Online strategy for a news organization is simple and similar to long-standing print strategies – to provide the community with the best resource of relevant news and information. The difference online is we must continually adapt to technology and provide this important information through the mediums the masses are using and educating the businesses that support us on how to best use these new mediums.
What will never change is a community’s thirst for good information. With new technology comes opportunities to accomplish this at increasingly higher levels.
It’s an exciting time to be a journalist.
