Media efforts key in growing photography event

The work by NVC Media in building an audience around the Lincoln County Photo Festival helped expand the event in its second year.

We worked to build an audience of photography enthusiasts and invite them to come to this rural Nevada community for two days of hands-on workshops in a gorgeous high desert environment.

Morgan Stackhouse – Lincoln County Photo Festival participants check their cameras during a Sports Photography workshop at new mountain biking trails near Caliente, Nevada.

The audience was built through the development of web pages on the LincolnCountyNevada.com website, targeted Facebook advertising, email marketing with Outdoor Photographer magazine, print flyers and word-of-mouth through photography influencers in the area.

The result was increased paid attendance at the festival, where valuable workshops were provided by professional photographers. Classes included Action/Sports, Drone, Sunset, Night Sky, Wildlife, Impressionist, Travel, Environmental Portraiture, and Photo Editing. Instruction was given in the field by experienced professionals at some of the most beautiful locations in the county.

We utilized an online survey to receive feedback from participants on their experience. Feedback indicates they overwhelming enjoyed the experience and provided a lot of great ideas to help organizers improve the event moving forward. A Facebook group was created to build a community around the event and group members are active there, continuing the relationships they forged over the June weekend. An email list of attendees was captured to keep them in the loop on next year’s festival.

As the event continues to improve and grow, this generates revenue for the Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT), supporting its work to boost tourism in this community. This in turn brings more customers to local businesses, not only on event days, but throughout the year as word spreads about all there is to do and see in Lincoln County.
