Gravel Grinder shows what can be achieved when we work together

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller

Nevada State Parks and the Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT) are doing much good together. Their long-term relationship has produced events in Lincoln County that have added to the community’s appeal and brought in visitors, giving a boost to the local economy.

At NVC Media, it is a joy to work with both organizations, managing the media outreach for events. One example is the Beaver Dam Gravel Grinder, an annual mountain bike ride at Beaver Dam State Park. The event invites mountain bikers to ride a 40-mile loop through and around this pristine park.

Riders enjoy a vast array of scenic views — deep canyons, high peaks, volcanic rock formations and juniper and pine forests. It’s a great opportunity to unplug and unwind from the daily routine, which is the essence of LCAT’s invitation for people to come, and “Get Primitive.”

In its first year, around six years ago, the Gravel Grinder attracted a handful of curious mountain bikers. That’s typically how most events begin, with organizers wondering if all the work was worth it. As NVC Media became involved, we helped organizers spread the word through LincolnCountyNevada.com, social media, and advertising in Cycling West, a popular monthly tabloid. Meanwhile, State Parks continued putting on an excellent event each year.

With our media management efforts and positive reviews spreading through word of mouth, attendance took off. Today, the Gravel Grinder has reached its goal of attendees, and Lincoln County now has another sustainable event mountain bikers look forward to each year.

Those timeless words from the great Helen Keller still ring true. When people or organizations come together for a common goal, much can be accomplished. We’re just happy to contribute and to be part of something special, and a whole lot of fun!
