Restored kiosks feature maps of new mountain biking trails and local attractions
ALAMO, Nev. — Nevada Central Media unveiled three modernized information kiosks at key points throughout Lincoln County, Nev., kicking off a broader effort to promote tourism and outdoor recreation in the rural community.
The restored kiosks, located at Panaca Summit, Pony Springs and Alamo, were left empty for years. Now, thanks to a partnership between the Lincoln County Authority of Tourism (LCAT) and TravelNevada, they are equipped with lighting and custom posters that include maps of recently added mountain biking trails, wilderness areas and local attractions. The improvement project is a sign of what’s to come for Lincoln County as it aims to draw more hikers, cyclists and sightseers to the area.
“Lincoln County is really starting to tap into the tourism economy,” said Ben Rowley, founder of NVC Media. “People are looking for adventures and want to find new things to see and do. We are hopeful this is part of something that will create more jobs in the area and benefit our community for years to come.”
LCAT won grant funding to improve the kiosks and partnered with NVC Media to lead the project. NVC Media collaborated with a variety of businesses and organizations to complete the task. Local power districts volunteered time to outfit two of the signs with solar-powered lighting kits and connect the third sign to the local power grid. A map designer, local sign printer, the Caliente Mountain Biking Association, Nevada State Parks and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) all helped bring the posters for the kiosks to life.
“We’re glad we can offer media expertise to community agencies. With projects like this, it’s so important to understand the community and know what it takes to connect the dots with other local stakeholders,” Rowley said.
